Connect with Microsoft at Red Hat Summit (or via the Live Stream!)

We’re headed to San Francisco soon for the Red Hat Summit, where we’re proud to again sponsor and participate in a forum that brings together communities who are passionate about open source in the enterprise.
We announced our partnership with Red Hat in 2015, when we started making Red Hat solutions available natively to Microsoft Azure customers and delivering integrated enterprise support across hybrid environments. Since then, we’ve brought SQL Server to Red Hat Enterprise Linux, added OpenShift to our joint roadmap, offered free RHEL for Visual Studio, and served thousands of customers around the globe that are transforming their businesses with Red Hat solutions in Microsoft Azure.
We’re looking forward to celebrating how far our partnership has come in recent years and revealing what’s on the horizon. The gentleman in the consistently red shirt (coordinates well with all the red hats!), Scott Guthrie, will join Red Hat’s Paul Cormier on stage during the Tuesday afternoon keynotes, where Scott will announce the latest joint offering. If you aren’t in San Francisco, you can stream the keynotes live, between 1:45pm – 3pm PT.
There’s also a big Microsoft team at the event this year, with lots of opportunities to connect in the Microsoft booth and during the several sessions listed below. Booth demos will be running all day every day, covering a range of topics, from SQL Server on Red Hat Enterprise Linux to DevOps automation with tools like Ansible.  Of course, our resident ninja sloth, Brady, will be making an appearance in its best Red Hat attire. You can grab some stickers with his likeness, t-shirts, or other surprises.
3 principles for securing and well-managing your Linux VMs in Azure (10:30 AM – 11:15 AM)

Come join us to learn 3 basic principles to successfully deploy and manage Linux environment in the cloud.
Developing .NET Core Applications on OpenShift (10:30 AM – 11:15 AM)

Microsoft’s approach for the past several years has been to enable Linux and Open Source technologies to be first class citizens in the public cloud. From the developer perspective, this includes creating fast and lightweight containers with .NET Core using Visual Code (VSCode). This joint session with Red Hat and Microsoft will demonstrate the benefits of developing cross-platform applications in .NET Core on OpenShift. This session will cover life from the developer point of view and focus on not only when to use .NET core but how to maximize developer productivity. It will cover the latest advancements Visual Code (VSCode) in addition to other tools/tips to accelerate .NET core development on OpenShift.
Orchestrating Microsoft Windows Containers with OpenShift (11:45 AM – 12:30 PM)

For the last several months, Microsoft and Red Hat engineering have been working on enabling Windows container technology upstream in the Kubernetes eco-system. We have reach the point where are ready to start showing how these technologies can be leveraged in an enterprise manner through OpenShift. During this session you will hear from both Microsoft and Red Hat about the collaboration, see the current solution, and learn how to get involved with the technology preview.
SQL Server and Red Hat (11:45 AM – 12:30 PM)

Security best practices for hosting Linux workloads in Azure (1:10 PM – 1:30 PM)

OpenShift Container Platform on Microsoft Azure (1:00 PM – 3:00 PM)

Learn how to setup an OpenShift environment in Azure and deploy applications on it. At the end of the session you should have a working OpenShift Environment in Azure and be able to deploy a basic application on it. For extra credit you could setup Azure AD integration for your OpenShift environment. This session will require pre-work to setup your Azure and Red Hat Developer accounts in advance of the lab. Registered participants will get Azure credits to use during and after the lab.
Build an Open Hybrid Cloud and Paint It Red and Blue (3:30 PM – 4:15 PM)

Cloud is the new norm. Enterprise customers need to use private and public cloud solutions to become more agile and competitive. However, it is still challenging to build hybrid cloud architectures for most customers. In this session, you will learn the benefits of combining Red Hat and Microsoft Azure services to build an open hybrid cloud. We will start with an introduction to the Red Hat and Microsoft partnership and what it means to our customers. We will also discuss and demonstrate a reference architecture, where we use a CI/CD pipeline to deploy a microservices web application in a hybrid environment. Next, we will use Red Hat OpenStack Platform on premise and Red Hat OpenShift on Microsoft Azure. Finally, we demonstrate how to orchestrate both platforms by using the capabilities of Red Hat CloudForms and Azure operation and security services.
Perfecting reliable code delivery for the cloud with JBoss, Spring, and OpenTracing (1:00 PM – 1:45 PM)

In this demo-heavy presentation we’ll describe how to use Web apps, CI/CD and OpenTracing tracing to reliably deploy updated versions of Spring Music (https://github.com/cloudfoundry-samples/spring-music) to containers and VMs in the cloud.  We’ll also demonstrate best practices for code delivery pipelines that are maintained using the Linux command line, plus tips on the best free tools and SDKs available on GitHub.
