Since announcing our participation in Hacktoberfest<\/a> earlier this month, we’ve heard from many community members and contributors, and we\u2019re excited to share more details about how to get started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you make at least one pull request* on any<\/u> Microsoft repo between October 1st<\/sup> – 31st<\/sup>, you\u2019ll receive a limited edition t-shirt designed by Ashley McNamara (Cloud Developer Advocate and graphic designer).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to participate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
    \n
  1. Find a project<\/strong> that looks interesting. You can browse all our of repos on opensource.microsoft.com<\/a> and filter by keyword, trending, stars, forks, tags, and more.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Perhaps you already have a great idea for improving the project. If not, browse the list of open issues<\/strong>. My favorite tip: look for issues labeled help-wanted<\/em><\/strong> or good-first-issue<\/em><\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Make a Pull Request<\/strong> to improve the project\u2019s code or documentation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. [Important]<\/strong> Complete this form<\/a><\/strong> to make sure we enter you in the challenge and register your participation. We\u2019ll send instructions for receiving your shirt after Hacktoberfest ends.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    …that\u2019s it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    We\u2019ve intentionally made participation easy and straightforward to encourage contributions from anyone and everyone, across geographies, experience, and expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    While you only need to make one pull request to receive a shirt, you\u2019re welcome to make as many as you like (to our repos or via other Hacktoberfest celebrations).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Our Hacktoberfest t-shirt design<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Ashley McNamara<\/a>, Cloud Developer Advocate, co-creator of the popular Gopherize.me<\/a>, and advocate for all things open source, graciously donated some time to design our Hacktoberfest-themed t-shirt \u2013 and we can\u2019t wait to start sending it to participants.     Also, note that contributions don\u2019t have to come in the form of code. Improving documentation is a great place to start, and you can check out our developer documentation by searching opensource.microsoft.com<\/a> with keyword \u201cdocs\u201d<\/strong> or visiting the MicrosoftDocs GitHub org<\/a>. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
