Here are some recent open source updates from docs.microsoft.com, our home to thousands of pages of technical documentation, API reference, code examples, and more for developers and IT professionals.
Visual Studio Code: Visual Studio Code is a lightweight but powerful source code editor which runs on your desktop and is available for Windows, macOS and Linux. It comes with built-in support for JavaScript, TypeScript and Node.js and has a rich ecosystem of extensions for other languages (such as C++, C#, Java, Python, PHP, Go) and runtimes (such as .NET and Unity). It’s become very popular, particularly with JavaScript devs. Check out introductory videos and all the documentation on docs.microsoft.com.

AKS cluster upgrades and managed K8s: Corey Sanders and Gabe Monroy show off the new functionality to auto upgrade Kuberneties clusters as part of the recent launch of AKS. Demo starts at minute 1:20.

Git at Enterprise Scale: An introduction to GVFS and why you should use it: The Git Virtual File System (GVFS) is an open source system that enables Git to operate at enterprise-scale. It makes using and managing massive Git repositories possible. In Part 3 of 3 part of the series, Jerry Nixon, Saeed Noursalehi and Christian Allred show us what GVFS looks like under the hood and how you can start using it today.

Top themes from KubeCon: Last week, the Kubernetes community came together in record numbers at KubeCon, with the goal of making it easier than ever to use containers to modernize existing applications and manage new applications. Check out the top themes from the event.
Microsoft AI School:  The AI School features a variety of trainings for developers and data scientists to get started and dive deep into the Microsoft AI platform and deep learning. From an introduction to AI to how to build bots with Node.js, there are lot of resources and tools to help you infuse AI into your apps. R in the Windows Subsystem for Linux: If you have a Windows machine and want to use R within a Linux ecosystem, that’s now easy to do with the new Fall Creator’s Update (version 1709). If you need access to the gcc toolchain for building R packages, or simply prefer the bash environment, it’s easy to get things up and running. Learn how here.
New Azure Marketplace offers: The Azure Marketplace is an online applications and services marketplace that enables start-ups and ISVs to offer their solutions to Azure customers around the world. The Azure Marketplace currently offers virtual machine images, virtual machine extensions, APIs, applications, and machine learning services. In the past month, 35 new offers went live, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, Docker EE for Azure (Basic), Cassandra Cluster from Bitnami, EDB Postgres Ark, and more.
